DESIGUAL BY MAITREPIERRE

By Roisin Breen

After the success of their previous collaboration in FW22, Spanish brand Desigual and French young designer Alphonse Maitrepierre reunite for a second capsule collection which is 100% sustainable, celebrating a new horizon for Desigual.

Inspired by the image of the black hole in the center of the Milky Way, Maitrepierre developed an array of hypnotizing prints in the image of the nebulae and galaxies whirling around far away in outer space. Photographed for the first ever time in 2022, the breakthrough image has changed the way scientists think about blackholes and our galaxy itself, not different from the breakthroughs in knowledge we have acquired as an industry throughout the last decade. For Maitrepierre it is “a metaphor for universal destruction and creation.”

Inspired by this concept Desigual and Maitrepierre committed to ensuring that the collection itself was 100% sustainable, using entirely sustainable fibers such as organic cotton or BCI and Naia, a fiber made from cellulose. The buttons on the denim garments are recycled, as is the label on the back of the jeans. Thanks to their sustainable manufacturing process, the leather accessories are certified by the Leather Working Group.

It’s a collection that aims to leave a positive lasting impact on future generations, designed to be reworn and recycled, a circular vision for the fashion industry.
