Garden of Earthly Delights: Raf Simons’ Dior Haute Couture FW15 collection

This Monday afternoon, the Musée Rodin in Paris was transformed in a gigantic, multicolored glasshouse for Raf Simons’ Dior Haute Couture FW15 collection. The runway – a purple carpeting path – was surrounded by big asymmetrical glass panels that were filled with paint spots of every color of the rainbow. There was something different about this collection, something more liberated. Silhouettes were ample and ambitious: asymmetrical coats with accentuated pockets came with a large fur sleeve on the right shoulder, while the left one remained bare. The garments demanded tenure, which gave them an incredible impact at they passed by down the runway. A sheer white dress opened the show and its length and fluidity immediately referred to an angelic, unearthly vision. Though, Raf Simons’ collection was very much about Earth. It was about our connexion to the elements – expressed by the vivid color palette – and it had this incredible feeling of richness to it. An abundance of beauty. Still, with Simons there always has to be something more, something breaking the first degree. This afternoon, it was the all-black, voluminous, belted dress in technical fabric accessorized with a golden chain that felt down the neckline. It was also the short-sleeved black leather overcoat or the armor-like bustiers worn over short dresses. Velvet dresses and colorful overcoats gave that feeling of security, of comfortableness. Raf Simons perfectly reinterpreted the beauty of our world, and everyone will find in this collection their piece of Earthly Delight.
