DIOR PRESENTS: A/W 2020/2021 HAUTE COUTURE

By Crash

Revealed exclusively online, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s autumn-winter 2020-2021 Haute Couture collection was unveiled at the heart of a magical film – entitled Le Mythe Dior – directed especially for the House by Matteo Garrone, the emblematic Italian filmmaker who recently granted us with Pinocchio.

As if by magic, the virtuoso miniature creations of the Ateliers come to life, traveling through a dreamlike imagination. A true alchemy of the Dior dream, mythology and cinema, this enchantment pays homage to the Théâtre de la Mode, a unique event initiated in 1945 to promote French couture throughout the world, with Paris remaining more than ever the capital of haute couture. Luxury being above all a beauty of gesture, imbued with emotion and joie de vivre, it was essential and symbolic for Maria Grazia to perpetuate and reinvent, in turn, in this particular period, this spirit of freedom and renewal, in the name of the creative energy transmitted by Monsieur Dior.

A priceless feat for the Dior seamstresses who have taken up the challenge of miniature tailoring through an infinitely demanding and passionate dialogue with many skills of excellence. This bewitching collection highlights the nobility of the artisanal poetry that sculpted, shaped, embroidered and sublimated these exceptional creations. To imagine these thirty-seven fascinating silhouettes, Maria Grazia Chiuri wished to celebrate the work and the journey of five Surrealist, indomitable, magnificently inspiring figures: Lee Miller, Dora Maar, Dorothea Tanning, Leonora Carrington and Jacqueline Lamba. Visionaries, these audacious personalities have transcended their role as « muses » by affirming their vocation as artists of dazzling talent.
