After an episode with Duran Lantink, Browns bring to you the second episode of its « Be Conscious » series of videos, which aims to document a new generation of designers who are creating collections with the future of our planet in mind. Browns is really developing their eco-conscious range of brands sold so it seems fitting for them to shed light on a new way of consuming, more respectful of social and environmental issues. This time, the focus is on American designer Hillary Taymour of the brand Collina Strada, based in New York City. In this very open-hearted video, Browns follows her from the street to her studio where she takes us through all the elements she achieves on a daily basis to make her brand sustainable. She is known for putting on unexpected, fun and lively shows where models are expected to be themselves, laughing and expressing their personalities – the opposite of a classic runway of deadpan expressions and a linear walk. For her S/S 2020 collection, she was inspired by the atmosphere of a farmer’s market and recreated one for the show, where every element of the decor was loaned and the fruit and veg came from leftovers from other fashion shows. And the guests could even go home with some fresh produce! As she says in the video, sustainability should be considered luxury and not just a trend or a gimmick… it’s time for it to become the norm when designing.
