DISCOVER THE BRAND NEW DKNY SS16
Spring 2016 is a turning point for DKNY. The label created by Donna Karan in 1989 has been revamped with the appointment of designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne. The duo launched their own menswear label, Public School, in 2008 and rapidly extended their influence to womenswear. Chow and Osborne are industry’s favorites and took home two of the most coveted prizes there is, namely the CFDA’s Menswear Designer of the Year award and shortly after the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s top honor. For their own brand, the creative duo is known for their modern, sporty aesthetic. A vision they successfully applied to DKNY, originally created with the purpose to focus on the clothes, that is to say, pieces that can be worn easily and with no attention to season trends. That is the impression the DKNY SS16 collection gave when it walked down the New York runway this week. With a focus on pinstripe suits, the collection had this undeniable power factor that blurred the line between masculinity and femininity. Mainly black and white, we could take a shortcut by saying the black and grey suits and asymmetrical suit dresses represented the masculine inspiration, while the fluid, white blouses and pleated skirts or shorts were the incarnation of the feminine element. It was more than that. Merging from those two complementary contrasts, there were some great, powerful pieces that will surely suit the 2016 working girl.
