DOVER STREET MARKET OPENS NEW CONCEPT STORE IN PARIS

By Aicha NDIAYE

Dover Street Market inaugurated last week its first multi-brand boutique in the heart of the Marais district of Paris. This new store is located in the iconic Hôtel de Coulanges, a historic building that provides a unique backdrop for Dover Street Market’s innovative retail experience.

Occupying the ground floor, the first floor, and one of the three basements of the Hôtel de Coulanges, the new Parisian store offers a distinctive shopping experience. The other two basements (BF-1 and BF-2) and the courtyard are dedicated to hosting art, literary, music, and community events. Different artists will also be invited to take over the store with exhibitions and installations, thus continuing the creative spirit encouraged by the late Association 3537, which previously occupied the building for three years.

The entire store, including the café Rose Bakery, has been meticulously designed by Rei Kawakubo, the visionary behind Comme des Garçons. In keeping with Kawakubo’s philosophy, no clothing will be visible from the outside, and there will be no dedicated brand spaces or concessions. This design approach encourages customers to embark on a voyage of discovery, enhancing their shopping experience. The Japanese designer believes that the more effort customers put into finding items themselves, the more satisfying the experience will be.

This multi-brand boutique will feature collections from Comme des Garçons alongside a curated selection of luxury brands such as Margiela, Prada, Bottega Veneta, and Balenciaga. Additionally, it will showcase works from emerging designers like Vaquera, Martine Rose, Hodakova, Phileo, Torisheju, Duran Lantink, and Denim Tears, offering a blend of established names and fresh talent.

Founded in 2004 in London, Dover Street Market has grown into a global brand with concept stores in London, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, Beijing, Singapore, and now Paris. The new Parisian store joins the ranks alongside a dedicated Dover Street Market boutique for perfumes and cosmetics in the city, further solidifying the brand’s presence in the world of fashion.
