FASHION EAST FALL WINTER 2016: ON THE RUNWAY

London, Fashion East Fall Winter 2016. Since 2000, Fashion East has been promoting young talents in fashion design and giving them an extra push with their flourishing careers. Sponsored by Topshop, TOPMAN and The Greater London Authority, the non-profit offers each season three womenswear and three menswear designers the chance to show their collections as part of the official London Fashion Week schedule. Successful London-based designers such as Holly Fulton, Jonathan Saunders, Gareth Pugh, Simone Rocha or Marques’Almeida have all made their debut with Fashion East over the years.

This season, four designers presented their collections: A.V Robertson, Caitlin Price, and Richard Malone participated in a collective fashion show, while Mimi Wade chose the presentation format. The fashion show reflected the unique creativity of the new generation and took the pulse of London’s youth. Central Saint Martins graduate Amie Robertson presented her debut collection under the eye of Marc Jacobs, whom she joined after her graduation as a design assistant, in attendance. Inspired by unearthly creatures she used to write stories about as a child, Robertson offers a new take on tailoring with vibrant colors – vivid red and green – and three-dimensional, crisp flower embroideries. A graduate from Central Saint Martins as well, Caitlin Price is definitely a talent to watch out for. Studying under the emblematic Professor Louise Wilson, she was awarded the Armani Scholarship in 2013, and only a year after launching her eponymous label, she’s now been preselected among the 23 finalists of the LVMH Prize. Her Fall-Winter 2016 collection (the third one presented as part of Fashion East) gives a fresh perspective on street wear. Mixing high and low, the manages to create an aesthetic where age becomes irrelevant. Her designs – between body-consicous, revealing silhouettes and large outerwear volumes – take luxury to the streets and don’t fear the mix of fabrics. Last but not least, Richard Malone delivers a dazzling collection where graphic stripes create an optic illusion in movement. Taking some elements from the menswear wardrobe, his collection definitely remains feminine: long skirts and dungarees are cut high to show some leg, and body-consicous minidresses enhance the silhouette.
