Continuing its collaboration with American artist Joshua Vides, who previously redesigned Harrods’ FENDI CAFFE and the Peekaboo Bar pop-up, Fendi is now presenting California Sky, a Pre-Fall 2020 collection dedicated to cartoons. Joshua Vides’ signature black felt pen gives the pieces a new dimension and transforms us into comic book heroes. Full of humor, fantasy and trompe l’oeil effects, the collection revolves around casual pieces with sharp contours and scribbled details. In the color palette, there is obviously a lot of black and white, with a few touches of swimming pool blue and pastel mauve – the shades of the Rome sky. The Californian artist has also reinterpreted the house’s FF logo in a floral all-over print and a calligraphy effect. The urban wardrobe blends with the classics of Cruise fashion, creating hybrids such as the openwork knit top paired with a miniskirt featuring faux buttons and high-top sneakers. With an emphasis on lightweight pieces, the collection consists mainly in nylon windbreakers, monogrammed biker shorts, printed denim pants, cardigans and a selection of evening wear in textured jacquard fabric. On the accessories side, Joshua Vides had fun covering Fendi’s signature bags with pop flowers, pastel color gradients and black marker lines. The Peekaboo, Baguette and FENDI Roma come alive under the playful eye of the artist, known for his influences from street art and skate culture.
