FENDI X LEWIS KEMMENOE: UNVEILING ÆNIGMA AT DESIGN MIAMI/2024

By Max Mendel

Fendi collaborates with London-based designer Lewis Kemmenoe for Design Miami/2024 to present “ænigma”, a collection merging the luxury house’s Roman heritage with Kemmenoe’s material innovation-focused design. Inspired by Rome’s art, architecture, and nature, the collection embodies the dual meanings of its title—a riddle and a mystery—through intricate craftsmanship and thoughtful design.

The collection balances organic and processed materials, with box joints incorporating Fendi’s FF motif and timber patchwork mimicking jacket patterns. Highlights include the brass and aluminum Fendi Patchwork Club Chairs, the alabaster-inlaid Galleria Cabinet, and illuminated wall panels and lamps crafted from burl wood and metals. Each piece explores contrasts in texture, form, and materiality.

Kemmenoe reimagines Fendi’s Peekaboo Soft Medium bag, using leather patchwork, timber hardware, and hidden wood textures to echo the collection’s motifs. This seamless fusion of fashion and furniture design encapsulates the partnership’s innovation.

A range of furniture and the iconic Peekaboo bag, « ænigma » reflects Fendi’s craftsmanship and Kemmenoe’s organic design philosophy. The collection is both a homage to tradition and a challenge to convention.
