G-STAR CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ICONIC ELWOOD 5620 JEANS

20 YEARS OF INNOVATIVE STYLE: THE G-STAR ELWOOD 5620 JEANS

A first limited re-edition of the iconic Elwood 5620 is available as of today

2016 is a big year for Dutch denim behemoth G-Star. Founded in 1989 in Amsterdam, the label launched in 1996 its the most innovative, never-seen-before design. It was the Elwood 5620 jeans, invented by French designer Pierre Morisset, who began collaborating with G-Star back in 1991. Truly inventive, the Elwood 5620 comes from the idea of reinventing the way denim trousers are constructed. Morisset had this brilliant idea when discovering how a motorcyclist’s jeans was molding his legs, and the designer immediately thought of recreating that shape using a groundbreaking 3D technique. 3D Denim is now a method of construction known for being G-Star’s trademark. With modification of patterns, seam manipulation, and chemical and heat treatments, G-Star – led by the innovative mind of Head Designer Pierre Morisset – has completely set up the bar for a continued reinvention of denim as we know it. To celebrate this heritage and to mark the occasion of this 20th anniversary, G-Star is releasing every month of the year a limited edition of the Elwood 5620. This limited editions will include interpretations designed by artists and collaborators which names are still unknown. The Elwood 5620 is also the star of G-Star’s Spring-Summer 2016 campaign shot by Ellen Von Unwerth. Innovation and forward-thinking methods represent the core of G-Star, who has been concentrating over the last seasons on its RAW For the Oceans collection supported by Pharrell Williams. In fact, the Spring-Summer RAW For the Oceans collection will also feature a re-edition of the Elwood 5620, which will be produced with Bionic Yarn.

The first Elwood 5620 limited re-edition has been released today, January 26th: it is the G-Star Elwood Moto, a re-release of the original 1996 Elwood designed based on archival trousers designed for off-road Enduro racing. The G-Star Elwood Moto is now available in select G-Star Stores (exclusively in the Paris’ Bastille store) and on www.g-star.com.
