GIORGIO ARMANI DRESSES THE CAST OF « A MOST VIOLENT YEAR »

« A Most Violent Year » is a crime drama film taking place in New York during the 1981 winter. It is said to be the most dangerous year of the city’s history. The film focuses on Abel, an illegal immigrant played by Oscar Isaac working his way up in the petrol industry, inside a city spoiled by corruption, violence and immorality, and surrounded by political and industrial schemes that ultimately push Abel and his family into a state of misery.

Giorgio Armani is well known in the film industry for his numerous collaborations with lots of iconic movies such as « American Gigolo », « The Dark Knight » or « The Wolf Of Wall Street ». Besides, choosing Armani for this movie was an evidence, knowing his long-lasting relationship with the leading actress Jessica Chastain. For « A Most Violent Year », Armani worked alongside director J.C Chandor and costume designer Kasia Walicka-Maimone, who was nominated twice for the Costume Designers Guild Award, the first time for her work on « Moonrise Kingdom », the second for « Truman Capote ».

Jessica Chastain plays Abel’s wife Anna, a powerfull and rich woman. In the film, she wears exclusively Giorgio Armani creations, like some chic dresses, a strapless evening gown with a jacket incrusted with strass, and an elegant and form-fitting white trench coat. Jessica Chastain and Kasia Walicka-Maimoine came to Milan to take a loot at the Giorgio Armani’s archive and choose pieces for the movie. Therefore, many of the film’s outfits are true 80’s creations that are perfectly preserved.

« It was such an honor to collaborate with J.C. Chandor and Kasia Walicka-Maimone. This wonderful film project had great appeal to me because it is set in a time frame when women’s clothing was being revolutionized. Minimalism was a shocking new concept. The power suit was just beginning to find its way into the wardrobes of the most confident women. Jessica Chastain is a very charming woman and I find that she always wears my clothes perfectly, with great, nonchalant ease”, said Giorgio Armani.

“Giorgio Armani’s clothes combine a sense of style, class and power, which are all traits I wanted Jessica Chastain’s character to convey. With Kasia Walicka-Maimone at the helm and access to Armani’s amazing vintage archives, we had the perfect collaboration for bringing my vision of 1981 to life,” said J.C. Chandor.

“The script describes Anna, Jessica’s character, as a woman who came to great means and had natural great taste. The plot takes place in the early 1980’s. Jessica’s friendship with the Armani family opened a door to a great collaboration. We met with Jessica and the Armani team in Milan. It was fascinating to have access to the Armani archives from 1980’s. The Armani design team was very open minded to create new combinations of pieces from the archives and timeless pieces from more recent collections. Our film team followed with an extensive search in U.S. and Europe for vintage Giorgio Armani casual pieces.” said Kasia Walicka-Maimone.

« A Most Violent Year » opens December 31st in the U.S, will be released troughout the world between January and February 2015. Giorgio Armani will attend the official premiere on December 7th in New York, followed by an after party with the movie stars at Armani/Ristorante.
