GIVENCHY ANNOUNCES SARAH BURTON AS NEW CREATIVE DIRECTOR

On September 9, 2024, Givenchy announced the appointment of its new creative director, Sarah Burton. Burton will be responsible for the house’s womenswear and menswear collections. 

Sarah Burton is an English designer, who gained her Bachelor’s degree at Central Saint Martins in London. Known for her vast contribution to Alexander McQueen as well as her time as creative director of the house. Having been there from 1997 to 2023, Burton’s mark on the house is prominent. One of her highly revered designs is the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton’s, wedding dress to the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, in 2011. 

Sarah Burton has also received critical acclaim, namely the ‘Designer of the Year’ award and the ‘Trailblazer’ award from the British Fashion Council. She was also appointed ‘Officer of the Order of the British Empire’ (OBE) in 2012.   

Regarding her appointment at Givenchy, Burton stated, “ “It’s a great honor for me to join this magnificent house that is Givenchy, a true gem. I’m very excited to write the next chapter in the history of this iconic house and to bring my own vision, sensibility and convictions to Givenchy, sensibility and convictions to Givenchy.” She will present her first collection for the house in March 2025.
