GUCCI SHOWS SS25 MENSWEAR COLLECTION

By Chloe Edstein

The collection depicts interactions between urban areas and the seaside, as well as among individuals who have a passion for living. Ultimately, it conveys the concept of freedom. “I feel free when there is no distance between my words and my thoughts, between my actions and my heart. I hope that people feel free and welcomed in my clothes” says Sabato.

This collection pays tribute to professionals who mistakenly left their pants at home before heading to work and are now perfectly ready for the beach. The long coats are made of wool or bonded leather and feature tall vertical pockets and oversized openings at the rear. The formal attire comes in two variations: one comprises of tailored three-button single-breasted suits with a high break line and neatly pressed sleeves to maintain a precise silhouette, while the accompanying trousers are equipped with a buttoned tab to secure the ankle. The other style consists of relaxed yet straight-cut double-breasted jackets crafted from lightweight poplin. The zip-up jackets are of a shorter length, and the contrasting collar of the boxy leather jackets resembles corduroy but is embossed leather.

The shirts deviate from the classic bowling shirt style by incorporating three pockets typically seen in utility wear. Some shirts are adorned with beaded fringe while others feature applique embroidered flowers. They all display infinity prints, showcasing surfers, dolphins, hibiscus flowers, and banana leaves. Hand-knitted long sleeve polo shirts incorporate paillettes in an intarsia design. Jackets, available in sorbet colours such as green and yellow, are embellished with beaded fringe that mimics the movement of waves.

Finishing touches include a sculptural pointed toe which continues the evolution of the Horsebit, in either boot or loafer. Bags inspired by archival Gucci luggage made from brushed leather that’s bonded with the Gucci logo, with detachable pieces make an appearance as well as super-soft padded leather bags with magnetic closure and a functional bucket bag cut from gaberdine canvas twill, dipped in pigment for a modern finish. Belts fasten with a double-ended snap hook closure, mirroring the shape of the Horsebit. Bracelets and necklaces are designed in segmented bamboo styles. Sunglasses, whether worn traditionally or backwards, have hefty frames secured by a colourful Gucci strap.

This collection is a breath of fresh air, an ode to moving out of the city and to the seaside for hotter days.
