SPRING SERIES BY HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE : A JOURNEY THROUGH JAPANESE CULTURE
This December, Homme Plissé Issey Miyake will release a special series, focusing on “Shunga,” a type of Ukiyo-e artwork which was extremely popular as a form of entertainment during the Edo Period, in Japan. « Shunga » were erotic and colorful paintings, representing love scenes in an explicit way, often with an exaggerated aesthetic. Today, the art of « Shunga » is very famous around the world and is considered as one of the most important part of Japanese art. It is this dynamism driven by a sense of humor and the power of eroticism that inspired the Homme Plissé Issey Miyake collection this season. With this new collection, Homme Plissé Issey Miyake offers the confort of non-ironed, easy to wash clothes, with the originality suggested by different patterns and the colorful style of Japanese art. Shirts, jackets and coats directly inspired by the patterns of Japanese artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, famous for his beautiful landscapes and his sensual and audacious paintings or Utamaro Kitawaga, who’s renowned for his use of pop colors and structural compositions of love scenes. A great mix of influences that celebrates the Land of the Rising Sun culture with a modern twist.
