INSIDE JIMMIE DURHAM’S STUDIO

By Frank Perrin

Jimmie Durham has just been awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of the Biennale Arte 2019 yesterday. A perfect occasion to discover our photos of his and his wife Maria Thereza Alves’s studio in Naples which we published in our latest issue!

Tucked away in historic downtown Naples lies a hidden retreat : the studio of Native American artist Jimmie Durham and Brazilian artist Maria Thereza Alves, who split their time between Berlin and the mythical Italian city. In this silent and medieval environment, they prepare their exhibitions and receive their students, teaching them to alter their perception of the material world and find the magic contained in the various objects that populate their daily lives. Step into their creative universe.
