ISSEY MIYAKE WOMEN’S AUTUMN-WINTER 2016 CAMPAIGN

By Crash redaction

ISSEY MIYAKE AW16 CAMPAIGN BY JACOB SUTTON

Issey Miyake unique concept of clothing as « A Piece of Cloth » has been deeply recognized as avant-garde fashion since 1971. Since then, the designer has continuously opened up new horizons of clothing research through experimentation and different sewing techniques. Yoshiyuki Miyamae, now creative director of Issey Miyake, decided to go even « BEYOND », as it’s named, for its Women’s collection Autumn-Winter 2016. Thanks to the new 3D Baked Stretch technique, the House unveiled a collection composed of previously unseen silhouettes: voluminous shapes featuring the iconic plissé made of models travelers lost in unexplored galaxies. The video campaign was directed by artist Jacob Sutton. Playing with the optical effects of the collection by filming in both fast and slow motion, the artist gave the illusion of volume and movement between the clothes and the body. Talking about the campaign, Sutton affirms: « I wanted the viewer to have a visceral 3D experience of how the fabric moves. The still frames on close succession seem to suspend the fabric in time and the slow motion moving image releases it. »
