ISSEY MIYAKE UNVEILS ITS SECOND COLLECTION WITH IKKO TANAKA

ISSEY MIYAKE reveals its second collaboration with Ikko Tanaka, a collection produced in order to pay homage to the know-how of Ikko, which has long inspired ISSEY MIYAKE in his creative process. For this latest collaboration, ISSEY MIYAKE chose to use two of the most recognizable series by Ikko. First is the “Face” series, originally conceived in the 90s using color blocks and subtle curves to form faces. Here it gives rise to excellent arty and graphic pieces, in a range of colorful items including dresses, tops, pants, shorts, clutches, and even boots.

The second series reveals a more subdued aesthetic, made exclusively in black and white. Called “Bukogi,” the line is inspired by Japanese calligraphy and “Suibokuga” ink – two integral parts of Ikko’s work. It features pieces that recall the Japanese mindset: they are very large, a bit dark, sober, and embellished with a typically Asian print. In addition, the designer has imagined various models of LED lights – also designed with Japanese calligraphy and ink – that are foldable for easy disassembly. Through this collection, ISSEY MIYAKE wants to transmit the joy of creation, as well as the strength and liveliness of the graphic universe. A website dedicated to the project popped up in December, but this second collection will not debut until February in ISSEY MIYAKE’s boutiques on Boulevard Saint Germain and Rue Royale.
