JUNYA WATANABE FALL WINTER 2016: ON THE RUNWAY
A black body suit worn under a three-dimensional, laser-cut black skirt opened the Junya Watanabe Fall Winter 2016 show this Saturday in Paris. The silhouettes that followed were an iteration of that first impression; the designers explores the possibilities of 3D, and the black bodysuits seemed to be the blank canvas on which he would elaborate. You couldn’t help but notice the origami inspiration, whether with the symmetric construction of the clothes or with the graphic headpieces, sometimes completely covering the model’s faces, leaving a single eye to show. The make-up was quite intense also: strong eyebrows and eyeliner provided that feeling of gravity, and hair were hidden by black caps. Black and red were the only colors, at the exception of fuchsia here and there. That is to show how Watanabe masters the art of creating substance with the variation of a core idea. Pure poetry.
