LA PIAZETTA X PUCCI

By Roisin Breen

Pucci’s new Fall/Winter 2022 collection « La Piazzetta » designed by Camille Miceli, embodies the heart and joyful spirit of the Italian Dolce Vita. For this fall’s drop, Miceli played with lively colors and fabrics without compromising on comfort, alternating short and graphic pieces for day, with long and fluid for evening. The cool, sporty look, inspired by 90’s aesthetics, is finished with a bohemian air. Knits and jerseys are designed to move with the body. The party trousers with disco ruffles are a tribute to Italian signer Raffaella Carrà, and cut from elastic Lycra, a fabric borrowed from activewear. The innovative materials developed for the collection are designed not to wrinkle and to be easily thrown into a suitcase. The little black, body-conscious, dress in Terry cloth cotton is a case in point, a stretchy material which fits all body types and movements. The gold down jackets and waxed ponchos in « Marmo print » are a fresh take on outerwear and create lively silhouettes. At nightfall, sensual slip dresses with lingerie take center stage.

Zoom in on « La Piazzetta » and there are more hidden treasures to discover. Among them « The Fish ». Pucci’s new signature logo, round and generous in design, appears across jewelry, buttons and zippers. A silk label featuring a hand-drawn sketch of the Faraglioni in Capri (where Emilio opened his first boutique in 1951) and Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, is a reinterpretation of the Maisons’ archive version from 1953. Embroidered and quite, it adorns the garments like a miniature painting.

The collars, which vary in shapes and sizes, transform the silhouettes and allow for daring new ways of wearing the garments, as to the wearers’ desire: high, asymmetrical, buttoned, unbuttoned, accessorised with enamelled torques. Silk organza and raffia fringes on capes and boleros add a touch of glamour and frivolity.
