ON THE RUNWAY AT LOUIS VUITTON FALL WINTER 2016

Paris, Louis Vuitton Fall Winter 2016. This morning, on the last day of Paris Fashion Week, Nicolas Ghesquière presented his Fall-Winter 2016 collection in the spaces of the Louis Vuitton Foundation. Natalie Westling opened the show wearing a restructured version of a coat: the top part was a cropped leather jacket with two square pockets on the bust, the bottom part an overskirt cinched at the waist and open on a red patent leather pair of pants. Right off the bat, Ghesquière shows a new silhouette, which will be explored in different interpretations throughout the collection, sometimes as separate pieces, sometimes as multilayered outfits. The tough-looking silhouettes responded to softer ones, namely silk dresses with an overall print reminiscent of Louis Vuitton’s heritage as a trunk maker. The collection felt very strong and is definitely made for a confident woman who knows where she is going. Nicolas Ghesquière always gives an extra edge to his woman, and his approach is not about the fragile side of femininity, but most definitely aims to underline its strengths. Thus the high-heeled black and silver boots. Worn with short-hemed pants, they provide a rebel feeling that is Ghesquière’s signature. Though, the collection also features a great range of fluid printed dresses that remind of the motifs on a silk carré. On the dresses towards the end, these motifs are reinterpreted with sequins, for a vibrant finale.
