Louis Vuitton has invited six new artists to reimagine the house’s iconic Capucines bag, confronting their creative vision to a timeless piece. Beatriz Milhazes, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Josh Smith, Henry Taylor, Liu Wei and Zhao Zhao have all created one-of-a-kind handbags, adorned with a new-found personality. This exclusive collection blends contemporary art’s finest with the incredible craftsmanship and quality of the French maison. It will be available in a limited edition of two-hundred bags per model in a selection of Louis Vuitton stores worldwide.

Beatriz Milhazes has chosen eighteen different varieties of leather to obtain a uniform thickness in the body of the bag. A kaleidoscope of colors and textures spiral with two circles of leaf gold for a psychedelic piece. Jean-Michel Othoniel’s version is very chic, with a raffia body and gorgeous black resin beads for the handle, which are meant to evoke the artist’s monumental pieces like « Le Kiosque des Noctambules ». A the other end of the spectrum, New York artist Josh Smith has centered his bag around one of his paintings from the series « name ».
