MARINE SERRE PRESENTS AN APOCALYPTIC S/S 2021: AMOR FATI

By Crash

For Spring/Summer 2021, Marine Serre presented a striking short film made in collaboration with the directors Sacha Barbin and Ryan Doubiago, with a soundtrack by Pierre Rousseau. The powerful cast of models is lead by the charismatic Iranian-Dutch singer Sevdaliza and the French artist Juliet Merie – a close friend and collaborator of the designer. Titled Amor Fati, the film is a powerful reflection on the world we are living in, which is shifting immensely at a fast pace and is showing us the urgent need to change our perspectives and adapt to new problematics. The characters mutate as they move through three symbolic environments: a laboratory, a natural landscape and an underground water-world.

Two chameleonic figures transition through these different worlds as their garments and appearances adapt to the situations they encounter. There are three associated ‘clans’: close-knit groups of people who both shape and support the central characters’ journey, as keepers of their fate. This transition reflects a human being’s mobility in real life, where one has the power to change their style or mode of being, to transform or to blend in, building personal narratives through the garments that they choose to wear.
