MARRKNULL INVITES US INTO THEIR ‘HOUSE’

By Chloe Edstein

“In the house of Marrknull, puzzles forget their answers.”

Marrknull has unveiled its newest Fall-Winter 24 ‘House’ collection, which beautifully captures their ethereal and mysterious essence. Drawing inspiration from the interplay between light and shadow, the pieces in this season’s line up challenge traditional softness bold textures, and dark hues reminiscent of untamed wilderness and thorns.

The collection features long skirts that exude a sense of duality, incorporating intricate folds and delicate ripples that resemble the essence of deep shadows and fleeting light. Exaggerated coats that cast shadows are paired with dainty undergarments that let light shine through. Effortlessly draped dresses that exude elegance are overwhelmed by extravagant glittery puffer jackets, Marrknull shows the various ways of being shrouded in shadow. Garments are in a constant state of coming undone, sometimes revealing the delicate bodies on which they hang, while at other times mealy exposing another layer before the core. Accessories are defined by sunglasses that define the eyes, gloves that ensure no fingerprints on this world are left, and purses that hang almost invisible. The designs artfully delve into themes of decay and rebirth, with spotted fabric blooming into intricate floral patterns. Infused with metaphoric storytelling, the designs display an aura of seduction and danger.

Textures are exuberant as Marrknull leaves nothing untouched, from fur to puffer, to denim, to knit. And to accompany it the colour pallet holds no bounds, with an array of muted greens, blues, greys, blacks, and browns intertwined with deep reds. The collection constantly asks, ‘Where have I been?’ and ‘Where am I going?’, such when an edgy elegance meets slouchy sweats as he pairs boxing red draws with a layered mesh train and a wire floral brassiere.

Marrknull weaves together detailed features, such as the burning rose motif, burgeoning vines, and cascading clock elements, to emphasize time’s fluidity. In addition, sharp thorns juxtapose fragile skin, symbolizing both fragile beauty and peril.

Marrknull transforms chaos into art as he redefines convention.
