MAX MARA FALL/WINTER 2022 COLLECTION
By Crash redaction
For the Fall/Winter 2022 collection presented at Milan Fashion Week Max Mara was inspired by the modernist artist and pioneer of the Dada movement, Sophie Taeuber-Arp. Max Mara’s silhouettes this season are inspired by her avant-garde work, specifically her costumes and marionettes that play with contrasting proportions.
Mohair sweaters feature articulated sleeves. Part boot, part legging, Max Maras crêpe-soled knitted thigh-highs feature anatomically placed quilting, and are paired with a quilted nylon micro-skirt. Skirts are bell shaped and full length, perfect with a skinny turtleneck and a balaclava. Trousers with overtly wide legs, in twill and techno-nylon. Zippered pockets and side splits pop up in unexpected places giving a distinctly Dada feel to the garments. Coats long or short underline the collection’s new slouch and swagger. Teddy Bear fabric gets a makeover in the form of a tunic, a long skirt, and a pair of shorts. Oversized puffers meant for layering and made with up-cycled wadding, derived from the waste material from the production of the Teddy Bear Coats. A series of chunky knits features striking motifs blown up and abstracted. It all adds up to a collection that fully honors Max Mara’s promise of sleek modern dressing.
