MIU MIU S/S 2021

By Crash

Yesterday, Miuccia Prada presented the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2021 collection. Entitled « Imaginary Sports Palace », it brings together classic 90s sportswear shapes with couture embellishments and smart tailoring. The aim was to draw parallels between sport events and the fashion show, which both share similarities while pertaining to two different worlds. Both are a means of human expression, they convey a certain sense of art and body accomplishment. They also both gather fan clubs and aficionados who wouldn’t miss a show or match if their lives depended on it. They are two forms of entertainment and definitely bring joy and a sense of community, which is vital in this day and age.

The collection alternates between simple straight shapes reminiscent of the 90s – mini skirts, A-line short dresses, crop tops and sheer blouses – and sportswear visible in the printed blousons, straight track pants and fuzzy striped sweaters. Centered around dichotomy, the looks blend different eras and aesthetics, while still capturing the essence of Miu Miu.

« This Miu Miu collection is about polarity – these are polar times. Everything is opposite. Sportswear and evening wear, a moment of reality, a moment of fantasy. In life, you need both. Two very clear basic moments, you dress up or you dress down. But you are never one woman – you are many. On one side you have to be very practical, on the other side you need attraction. You want to lift up, but you need to live in the real world. It is about the complexity of people, of women. » – Miuccia Prada
