This season Maison Margiela’s MM6 gives us familiar looks, focusing on the understated beauty of everyday streetwear. The collection has a moody adolescent meets chic commuter vibe. Boxy suits and wool peacoats but with campily exaggerated peak lapels; cool, dusky silhouettes styled with lug-sole trail-running shoes, the product of a collaboration with French brand Salomon. Double breasted overcoats, nylon bomber jackets, an oversized varsity jacket and denim trucker jackets give a utilitarian spirit to the collection. A scrunched up gown in black taffeta along with new versions of the maison’s iconic Japanese bag, jewelry inspired by sex toys and fetish piercings, and a plush toy snake repurposed as a shrug keep the collection playful.
