MOLLY GODDARD AUTUMN/WINTER 2022 COLLECTION
By Crash redaction
Molly Goddard’s collections are often inspired from something personal, an experience, a memory, a person. The Autumn/Winter 2022 collection is no exception, this time the inspiration being her mother’s best friend in the late 80s and 90s. Goddard describes her as a cross between « Marilyn Monroe and Mick Jones, » the childhood memory Goddard has of the Portobello market socialite of « big bleached blonde hair with a flower in it, red lipstick, a 50s dress with an army jacket and trainers, » inspired the eclectic feel of the collection. Fishtail taffeta dresses styled with baggy men’s jumpers and trainers are a direct reference to her inspiration while feminine evening dresses based on army dresses reinterpret this childhood memory while keeping the fashion market influence. Tulle is ever present in the collection, lined with cotton to create more daytime looks or as uneven frills creating structure and fullness to elevate the otherwise simple garments.
