MONCLER MAYA 70 BY PALM ANGELS

By Roisin Breen

As part of its 70th anniversary, Moncler unveils the Moncler Maya 70 Collaborations: seven reinterpretations of the iconic Maya jacket by seven designers. For the first launch, Moncler revealed the Moncler Maya 70 by Palm Angels, available from October 15th. Covered with bright optical fibers, this model is dressed with the Palm Angels logo and a Moncler Palm Angels Feltrino patch 8, placed respectively on the back and on the chest of the jacket.

Artistic director of Palm Angels, Francesco Ragazzi was born in Milan and studied fashion communication and photography. He founded Palm Angels in 2011 as part of a photographic documentation project on the culture of skateboarders in Los Angeles, first published in a book by Rizzoli in 2014, and then expanded into the ready-to-wear industry in 2015. Palm Angels is a fusion of timeless dress codes and material games, a unique vision – the fruit of an Italian look at American culture.

“I never stop thinking about the future. It is fascinating to imagine what will happen, and in a way, to anticipate it. This project reflects that mindset: it’s more than a jacket. It’s a light source.” Francesco Ragazzi, who chose Elsa Hosk to play the jacket, explains, “Elsa embodies perfectly the notions of light and the future.”

For its birthday Moncler will commemorate a selection of its vast landmark achievements, telling a story with a bold past, present, and future emerging from a mosaic of sixteen moments that reveal a multitude of Moncler voices, faces, and places. From a snow-capped K2 to the Grenoble Winter Olympics, Paninari youth culture, and the unbridled energy of Moncler Genius: each Moncler pinnacle represents a milestone shared. The colorful visual campaign aims to share Moncler’s history with current and new communities, and to spotlight the brand’s many peaks.

They have released a limited-edition anniversary version of the Moncler Maya down jacket, originating in the 1950s, the Maya has evolved over the decades with various iterations and evolutions to become one of Moncler’s most cherished styles. The exclusive Moncler Maya 70 is a commemoration and a fresh reinterpretation for Maya fans, featuring anniversary logo branding and thirteen exclusive colorways, including a special Platinum metallic version reflecting the traditional codes of a 70th anniversary.

Emphasizing Moncler’s incredible record of creative collaboration, CEO and Chairman Remo Ruffini invited seven designers who have shaped the brand to interpret the Maya jacket anew. The Maya 70 Collaborations have given birth to seven unique and inimitable designs that radiate the core DNA of Moncler. Starting on October 15th, a new designer interpretation will drop each week, with creations from Thom Browne, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Rick Owens, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Francesco Ragazzi, Giambattista Valli, and Pharrell Williams.

In a bid to bring Moncler Anniversary celebrations to the global community, an immersive exhibition has gone on tour – kicking off at New York’s Highline on October 5th, moving on to London (October 12th), and Seoul (November 18th). Each city experience recreates peak Moncler moments through vivid multisensory technology, bringing past, present, and future together through cinematic video, historical archives, and contemporary fashion heirlooms. A Chinese edition will be completely virtual, allowing guests to experience the exhibition directly on WeChat.
