NEW FLOWER CHILDREN AT COLLINA STRADA S/S 2020

By Crash

The start of a new decade is inspiring a lot of designers this season who are trying to make sense of the state of the world right now and encompass people’s need for new improved values. 2020 will definitely be about kindness and compassion towards others and the Earth, it will be about society joining forces to save what’s left of our resources as well as finding personal meaning to life. Hillary Taymour of Collina Strada definitely touched on those subjects through her Spring/Summer 2020 show, with a little help from stylist Charlie Engman. A cast of models and non-models, young and old, strutted down a street runway carrying fruits, bread and flowers from a local produce table available to all. Guests were each given reusable bags and a note that read: « Eat less meat. Eat more plants. Start a garden. Grow your own food. Cook at home. Plant a tree—plant many trees…«

The collection burst with crushed Crayola colors, blue tie-dye long dresses, plastic flower necklaces, beaded belts and 90s gym attire. You couldn’t help but make a parallel between the bohemian models and the flower children of the 1960s. Like a second wave of free love rushing through the veins of New York City.
