ON THE RUNWAY AT CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE FALL-WINTER 2016 PARIS

CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE FW16: AN HOMAGE TO THE FRENCH ATELIERS

This Haute Couture season, Karl Lagerfeld decided to dedicate his collection to the Chanel seamstresses, who are the core and soul of the French House’s ateliers. On the occasion of the fashion show, Lagerfeld recreated the Chanel ateliers to the very last detail in the rooms of the Grand Palais. It was as if we were entering the ateliers and witnessing the collection come to life, while about seventy seamstresses and chefs d’ateliers were working on their patterns. Walking among the seamstresses, the models sported silhouettes defined by their precise cuts, the common thread of the collection. The shapes are very graphic, with accentuated shoulders, three-quarter sleeves and large trousers. The first jackets are boxy with large collars, and lead the way to a very graphic collection, accentuated by the black and white eye makeup and the big hair held in grosgrain headband. The iconic tweed meets sheer fabrics like organza and silk tulle which is applied in triangular layers that add texture. Night silhouettes are inspired by British illustrator Aubrey Beardsley with black and white patterns. The Bride (here, Edie Campbell) is as contemporary as ever: she wears a lace bustier and trousers, with satin and tulle, and her train leaves a poetic impression with its embroidered flowers. Yet again, Karl Lagerfeld imagined the perfect collection to highlight the incredible craftsmanship of one of the most iconic French Houses there is.
