O’NEILL AND PARLEY FOR THE OCEANS TEAM UP FOR A GOOD CAUSE

O’Neill and Parley for the Oceans have just announced their partnership at the occasion of the Global Wave Conference that took place in Cornwall this October. Cyrill Gutsch, founder of Parley for the Oceans, is a designer and activist who has dedicated his time and efforts to raising awareness and finding solutions to solve the ocean plastic waste issue. A creative thinker with the incredible ability to unite people, Gutsch already rallied to his cause big brands like G-Star and Adidas, and helped create apparel collections made of yarn created from ocean plastic. Being one of the world’s leading surf and lifestyle brands, it was an evidence for O’Neill to collaborate with Parley on saving the oceans from this burning issue. « It is our responsibility as an organization founded in the surf to help save our oceans, and the responsibility of all those that utilize the oceans to act immediately, » said Willem Haitink, CEO of O’Neill, adding « This partnership with Parley for the Oceans isn’t just about introducing a new collection, it’s about taking action together to create a shift in how we think about and use plastic materials. » The partnership takes the form of a collection made from high performance eco-threads manufactured by Bionic Yarn from plastic collected from the oceans – the same process adopted by G-Star and that led to one of their most successful collaborations so far. The collection will hit the stores for Spring Summer 2016. O’Neill also involved athletes from the global surf and snow communities in this project, as Tai Buddha Graham, O’Neill surf ambassador. « We are surfers, we are all part of it and we all need to stand up and do something about it, » Graham said. More than just clothes, O’Neill and Parley for the Oceans are taking concrete actions.
