PAUL SMITH MEN’S FALL-WINTER 2016 PRESENTATION

SOMETHING OLD AND SOMETHING NEW: PAUL SMITH MEN’S FALL-WINTER 2016

On Monday, January 11th, Paul Smith took his London Collections Men presentation to the sphere of the cherished memories. Recreating his first-ever shop opened in 1970 (which measured only three meters by three meters), the British designer went on a travel back in time to highlight his creative process, his many inspirations in art, music, photography, and people, which eventually led him to build his name in the fashion industry. The presentation held on a cube recreating the dimensions of this first 1970 shop. An « organized chaos » in which one can lose track of the present and immerse oneself into the meaning of these memorabilia, along with his new designs for the fall-winter 2016 season. The presentation took place in Pace London, a respected contemporary art gallery of the capital. The « cube » actually fit into a group exhibition currently on view in the gallery, featuring works by John Hoyland, Anthony Caro, and Kenneth Noland. All of them contributed to inspire Sir Paul Smith in his creative process. In brief, this season’s presentation is a thoughtful glimpse at Paul Smith’s independent mind.
