RAF SIMONS SS22

By Crash redaction

For his SS22 collection Raf Simons  appeased to our post pandemic desires for androgynous city wear, in the unashamed way that only Raf can.

Set to the text ‘FLASHES OF A FUTURE ROMANCE IN A WORLD FULL OF NOISES’ he dared us to dream again, to dream of new proportions, of boxy silhouettes and overly long sleeves. In what was not only a mixed gender collection, but almost mixed seasonal as well, he gave a nod to the looming inevitability of climate change, offering up cosy knits with a nod to his trademark skeleton embellishments and floaty, rain caps in bright primary colours, reminding us that layering is the future and giving plenty of choice with which to do so.

Men graced the runway in boxy gowns and skirts, and the women charged up in oversized bombers and elongated dress shirts. Tailoring was reimagined with blazers and shorts fixed up in the style of band tour t-shirts, and emblazoned with words such as ‘Tranzonizer’ and ‘Resilience’, making sure his anarchic message could not be missed, despite the comfortable appeal of his silhouette and fabric choices. Hemlines tended to hover just above or below the knee for shirts, dresses and tailored shots, with the odd unfinished, cut-off hems revealing cleverly layered pieces reminding us of his rebellious, if meticulous nature.
