ROKSANDA FW25: A SCULPTURAL ODE TO PHYLLIDA BARLOW
By Iris JEANSON
Roksanda’s Fall Winter 2025 collection draws inspiration from the late Phyllida Barlow, whose sculptural work with discarded iteams mirrors the brand’s artistic ethos. A tribute to Barlow, the show concludes with her voice from her final public interview recorded just a few days before she passed away. This deeply moving moment not only honours her enduring legacy but also enhances the storytelling of the collection, underscoring its themes of creativity, texture, and emotional connection.
The collection features prints from scanned objects like plastic and cardboard, layered with bold strokes reminiscent of Barlow’s raw aesthetic. Key pieces include silk dupion prints of a female nude intertwined with a swan, fringe-spiked raffia, fil coupé tapestry, and oversized sequins. Deconstructed dresses and tailored pieces with organza panels highlight the fusion of structure and softness.
Roksanda explores space and form for this season, introducing garments constructed from negative spaces around pattern pieces. Presented at SpaceHouse, a brutalist landmark designed by architect Richard Seifert, enhances the sculptural nature of the collection.
In collaboration with Dylon, Roksanda created three runway looks paired with a bespoke cushion made from upcycled fabrics, reinforcing their commitment to sustainability. Merging art, fashion, and sustainability, Roksanda FW25 transforms the runway into a living sculpture, honoring Barlow’s legacy.
