ROLEX MENTOR & PROTEGE UNVEILS ITS SEVEN SELECTED ARTISTS
Rolex just unveiled the names of the seven protégés of its Rolex Mentor & Protégé artistic mentorship program 2016-2017. The young artists have been chosen by their mentors to spend a year of collaboration with them at the rhythm of their choice. Created in 2002, the program includes seven artistic disciplines which are represented by seven leading figures in the world of art. In music, mentor Philip Glass chose Pauchi Sasaki, a promising Peruvian violinist and composer respected for her multimedia performances. In visual arts, Joan Jonas will mentor Thao-Nguyen Phan, a Vietnamese contemporary multimedia artist. Representing architecture, David Chipperfield chose Swiss architect and urbanist Simon Kretz. Robert Lepage chose Argentinian protégé Matías Umpierrez to represent dramatic arts, while literature is represented by Julián Fuks who chose Mozambican protégé Mia Couto. Finally, Alfonso Cuarón chose protégé Chaitanya Tamhane to represent cinema, and dance mentor Ohad Naharin selected the promising South African performer Londiwe Khoza. Once again, this cycle of the Rolex Mentor & Protégé mentorship program is very exciting. By selecting the most promising contemporary talents in their respective fields, their mentors will now have the task to support them and guide them in their creative paths, eventually leading to the creation of a common work.
