SAILOR MOON AND JIMMY CHOO UNITE FOR A VALENTINES DONE DIFFERENTLY

By Roisin Breen

In a rare collaboration, the iconic and pioneering manga Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, has teamed up with Jimmy Choo’s creative director Sandra Choi to create a capsule collection in commemoration of thirty years since its’ release.

In the thirty years since Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon the impact that it has had on Western culture is unprecedented – note, paris’ Hilton’s 2022 Halloween tribute to the manga’s protagonist. Does popular culture get more popular culture than Paris Hilton?

The collection itself is a bold vision, encapsulating the vision of the two exceptional female creatives framing Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon’s pop culture influence through the quintessential Jimmy Choo prism of luxury and glamor.

Characterized from its inception as ‘shōjo manga’ – ‘girl’s comics’ – femininity and female power is at the very heart of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, just as it is embedded within every pair of Jimmy Choo shoes. Dynamic movement, energy, empowerment – the agency of women. The Jimmy Choo x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon collection translates these qualities to a capsule of footwear and accessories themed around the key characters – the ‘Sailor Guardians’ – of this manga phenomenon. Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, their mentor cat Luna and of course Sailor Moon herself are all represented, super heroines as envisaged by Naoko Takeuchi, and styled by Jimmy Choo.

The immediately identifiable colors of each Sailor Guardian define each style with their unique personae and individual traits inspire design treatments.

Available exclusively at the Selfridges dedicated Pop-Up boutique and online at jimmychoo.com
