Christie’s will participate in the anniversary celebration initiated by Madonna and Saint Laurent with the re-release of « SEX, » the 1992 photo book by Madonna and Steven Meisel. 

To mark this project, Christie’s will present Madonna x Meisel – The SEX Photographs, an auction of more than 40 unique works that will be sold live in New York on October 6th, 2023. 

Madonna’s book was born in 1992, becoming a pure cultural sensation that can be described as controversial because of its explicit and erotic content. The liberating vision of this book is pure sexual self-expression. Conceived by one of the most influential musicians ever, « SEX » contained images by Steven Meisel and a text written by Madonna in which she introduced her character, Dita. 

In 2022, Madonna and Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello celebrated the 30th anniversary with a first reissue of the famous book in 800 limited edition copies and a first gallery show at Art Basel in Miami.

Prior to the auction, a curated selection of photographs will travel to London (May 23-June 2) and Paris (June 27-July 6). A portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit Raising Malawi, to support orphans and vulnerable children in Malawi with critical resources.
