Born in Brittany, Hoel Blanchard studied at École Duperré before doing a Master’s degree at École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs.

The collection « That will happen before sunset » explores an alternative narrative on the witch. By weaving the link between this historical archetype and its more contemporary feminist and queer heirs, this collection captures images from different periods to transcribe a all-gender heritage. Leather is a recurring element in Hoel’s work, which he recovers from the surpluses of the luxury industry. He uses a technique to mold body parts with leather. The molded bustiers or shoes are reminiscent of ex-votos with protective properties. While claiming her marginality, the witch presents herself with strength and determination. The games of ultra feminity and masculinity evoke queer sartorial digressions, borrowing pieces from Camp and Butch wardrobe. Other forms are borrowed from the collective imagery of the witch, from her classics representations to more recent images of marginal, queer and feminist figures.
