The announcement was made today. Anrealage, Umit Benan, Pallas Paris, Pigalle Paris, and Vetements have been chosen as the five finalists for the 26th ANDAM Fashion Award. The winner will receive a €250.000 grant as well as a mentorship with Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Fashion at Chanel, a €10.000-worth crystal offering by Swarovski and an exclusive collaboration with thecorner.com.

To celebrate Vetements’ achievement in making it into the final cut, we offer you a glance at our feature in our latest issue, Crash 72 « Independency ».

THE AVANT-GARDE

Calling your label VETEMENTS may seem a bit too generic. But for the young Parisian fashion house, vetements is not only the French word for clothes, it’s a state of mind. VETEMENTS was born out of a desire to shift the focus back to the clothes themselves. And since it presented its first collection for the fall-winter 2014 season, interest in the brand has grown by the day. Behind the concept is a collective of seven designers who have decided, as far as they can, to remain anonymous. A decision likely related to their respective experiences at Maison Martin Margiela, a frequent point of comparison for the label. And yet, VETEMENTS is by no means a mere simulacrum or imitation. What sets VETEMENTS apart from every other brand is its personal approach to design and its concept of the collection. Working from a precise image of the real women they want to dress, the designers revisit classics of the feminine and masculine wardrobe, which they instill with a new vitality, more modern and more radical. The collections do not tell a single story or point to a single inspiration; they offer an ensemble of pieces that can be mixed and matched, while each item has its own distinct personality. The goal is simple: to return to making quality products that will last through changing fashions and seasons. VETEMENTS offers an avant-garde alternative to fashion as we know it: the proportions are cleverly exaggerated, the cuts are unrestricted, and the disparate details create a greater harmony.
