THE DUALITY: GAUCHERE IS A ANDAM FASHION AWARD FINALIST

By Crash redaction

At the occasion of the nomination of Gauchère as a finalist of the ANDAM Fashion Award in the category First Collections, we give you a glance at our special feature in our current issue, Crash 72 « Independency ».

THE DUALITY

Gauchère is all about audacity and ambivalence. The Parisian label was launched in 2011 by the young German designer Marie-Christine Statz, one of today’s top emerging talents. Nicknamed “La Gauchère” (“Lefty”) by her instructors at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de La Couture Parisienne, the moniker stuck and eventually became her brand name. Following the tradition of classic couture houses, all the pieces are produced exclusively in France at prestigious ateliers. The Gauchère esthetic is characterized by its eclecticism and numerous references, which occasionally contrast but never contradict each other. In fact, it’s this duality that makes Gauchère so unique. First there is the duality of materials: crape meets leather, heavy silks, and woolens in a combination of contrasting colors, textures, and transparency, forming a boldly contemporary patchwork. Next is the duality of cuts: asymmetry finds the right proportions as lines intersect, diverge, and meet again to delight the eye. And then the duality of references: masculine vests pair with romantic feminine details, while austere lines mingle with a murmured sensuality. Gauchère is the story that every woman can tell in her own way.
