Australian-born, Paris-based filmmaker Patrick Pearse presents this September his latest feature film, « The Misfortunes of François Jane. » The film depicts the internal journey of its main character, François Jane, a young man whose obsessive nature and incapacity to communicate with society find in Charlotte the ultimate object of desire. Taking Paris as a humanized backdrop, the film is built on a series of both aesthetic and metaphorical tableaux that underline its deep connection to experimental cinema and contemporary art. An artistic statement as such based on a strong connection to photography, « The Misfortunes of François Jane » notably grasps poetry as a medium balancing the character’s dreamlike consciousness and internal struggles. Used as moments of punctuation, inserts of poetry enlighten the metaphoric identity of François Jane’s journey and explore subconscious conceptions of beauty, pain, and love. As Pearse explains: « Poetry always seemed like a logical way for me to combine the metaphoric dialogues with carefully chosen imagery, location and costumes. I wanted the cinematography to be very poetic and so the dialogue and line readings were to complement the shooting style. I worked at balancing text and imagery to create a sense of rhythm that would become immersive. »

« The Misfortunes of François Jane » will premiere worldwide at Paris’ Palais de Tokyo on September, 28th, 2016, and you can already sign up to attend the event here: www.francoisjane.com
