THE SUM OF MANY AT 3537

By Martina Conte

THE SUM OF MANY, a five-year project by Daniel Derro Regan and Claudia Rafael, and an exhibition curated by Jordane Salomez, will be shown at 3537 starting May 6th.

The Sum of Many tells the story of Izzet Mafratogu, a Turkish immigrant in Berlin, and his boxing club, a safe place for young men and boys who have always struggled to integrate after immigrating to Germany. Izzet’s gym has become day after day a family where there is mutual care and respect.

Their somatic features, noses, cheekbones, eyes, and skin tones all reminded them of a history, heritage, and visible story that tells of their inner struggle to find a unique sense of belonging.
