THOM BROWNE AT LE BON MARCHE, AND EVERYTHING SILVER
The New York based designer, best known for his unique sense of style and take on classic suit wear has been given a place of honor at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche. From August 29 to October 17, an unprecedented exhibition puts him in the spotlight with an artistic installation and a pop-up store with exclusive womenswear and menswear pieces. The corner is as the image of the designer and his work: sophisticated but still extravagant. There is a fine balance between classic elegance and a retro-modernity: In the first of the two rooms, gigantic mirrors reflect the infinite image of a 1950s-inspired silver desk (with, for our pleasure, a silver writing machine, silver lamp and – yes – a silver apple!) with a white floor invaded with silver-plated leather shoes. « I am very proud to be the guest of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, » says Browne, « this department store is iconic and manages to find a superb balance between tradition and modernity. » The second room is filled with items, from leather suitcases to even kraft paper packagings and other accessories. On each side of the pop-up store, the apparel is to be found. Exclusively for Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, the « Made in New York » tailor-made suits stands out, while the submarine inspiration on the clothes – you’ve got to love the whale embroideries and whale-shaped wallets! – puts yet another enchanting feature to the whole package.
