THEORY PROJECT BY LUCAS OSSENDRIJVER

By Roisin Breen

In 1997, Theory revolutionized contemporary fashion by creating the concept of the « urban uniform, » which consists of pieces that are easy to own and match. Its luxurious yet accessible collections are renowned for their impeccable tailoring, innovative fabrics and timeless silhouettes.

On Wednesday 7th September, Theory unveiled the first capsule collection by Lucas Ossendrijver in New York. The visionary Dutch designer offered a dynamic, urban collection of elegant, casual clothing that is in tune with the demands of everyday life and perfectly designed for modern living. The capsule is part of the Theory Project, an initiative that celebrates the brand through collaborations with exceptional talent.

Silhouettes combined comfort and movement, crafted to meet the needs of daily life in a world that seeks to find the right balance between work and personal commitments. Informally elegant pieces were enhanced by a minimalist approach and technical know-how. Inspired by New York City, they accompany an active urban life and make it easy to put together a multitude of outfits for work.

« When I’m in New York, I always feel a sense of purpose. People are constantly on the go, and their attitude and the way they dress reflect that perfectly. The outfits are unclassifiable and spontaneous. It’s the unexpected that inspires me, » explains Lucas Ossendrijver.

With this collection, the designer freshly re-appropriated Theory’s signature millimeter pieces, relying on lightness and volume to modernize classic suits, tailoring and outerwear. The dazzlingly colored line includes soft, unlined blazers and long jackets with single-breasted, English seams made from wool flannel, gabardine and recycled technical fabrics from Japanese and Italian mills.

Perfectly in tune with Theory’s philosophy, Ossendrijver shares their core value that style begins with a purpose, giving Theory’s wardrobe essentials an electrifying and fresh spirit that appeal to both brand aficionados and new followers.

« I love Theory because, like the brand, I believe in empowering people, making their lives easier and making them feel good about themselves. With its global reputation, Theory makes relevant pieces with real impact. The idea is not to simply make clothes that look good on the runway or in photos, but to create a line that is in motion and in tune with our urban lives, » says Ossendrijver.

His Fall-Winter 2022 capsule collection is now available in Theory’s boutique located at 215 Rue Saint Honoré and on the website: theory.com
