TOTEME FW24

By Roisin Breen

Born in 2014 in Stockholm and the brainchild of co-founders Elin Kling and Karl Lindman, Toteme is a Swedish fashion house oozing with Scandi sophistication, minimalism and exquisite attention to detail and the brainchild of co-founders  It’s a brand where form, structure and silhouette reign, tailoring is exquisitely cut and fabrics are delectable to the touch. Typical masculine wardrobe staples are reimagined through a more contemporary feminine lens, making way for the modern multi-tasking woman and her vast range of daily tasks to complete.

The Fall/Winter 24 collection stayed true to self and focused on line, cut and shape. Tailoring was tapered and dominated the force of the collection, produced as ever in deliciously tactile fabrics such as Sherling and cashmere, a nod to the Scandi sensibility for all that is soft to the touch. Asymmetric hem and necklines bring an edge of masculinity and raw power to modernize and elevate silhouettes and slender dresses off-set the otherwise masculine bold tailoring. The color palette this season was monochromatic, a nod to the city girls approach to dressing perhaps, and accessories were exquisitely refined adding a put together feel to each and every look. Fall Winter 24 introduces two new bag styles: a classic day bag featuring a belt that cinches the sides to create elegant folds, adorned with a metal clasp; and a new mini rendition of the T-Flap bag constructed to perfect proportions and accented with a sharp top handle. The signature Toteme T-Lock clutch and top handle are reimagined with tactile shearling accents. Building on Toteme’s November 2023 launch of fine and signature jewelry, the collection is styled with sculptural pieces that take their cues from the twisting motifs of the body-swathing knitwear. A collar necklace and a cuff bracelet in yellow gold-plated brass sport sinuous swirls like vine tendrils

It was a collection that was truly Toteme through and through, timeless pieces that can be layered (and taken off) depending on the rapidly changing climate today’s working woman faces throughout her day. It’s pieces that complement an existing wardrobe, designed to extend and rethink rather than a total trend transformation, a brand for a woman who knows and appreciates who she is to the cure.

First unveiled via an intimate show in Paris on 22 January 2024, the Toteme Fall Winter 24 collection will be available at www.toteme-studio.com and selected retailers from August 2024.
