BACKSTAGE AT UJOH FW24
By Iris Jeanson
Ujoh’s latest Fall-Winter 2024 collection resonates with Bruce Weber’s timeless work « Men & Women, » capturing the sheer joy of being wrapped in cloth. The vintage allure of Weber’s 1980s photographs translates into Ujoh’s luxurious interpretation of modern fashion.
Square-shaped drapes, fringes, and constructive tailoring define this collection. Doeskin, a formal wear smoking cloth, mingles with glossy nylon taffeta, creating a juxtaposition of generous, fluid volumes against structured tailoring. The layering of bottoms, dresses, and scarves adds a contemporary nomadic flair, allowing for free-spirited expression.
Ujoh’s commitment to clean outlines and daring cuts shines through, reflecting founders Mitsuru Nishizaki and ACO’s years of pattern-making expertise. The brand’s elegant universe explores the intricate relationship between the body and clothing, showcasing technical prowess and innovative shapes that harmonize with the human form.
Introduced in 2019, Ujoh’s men’s line remains true to the brand’s focus on genuine tailoring, incorporating details from uniform and military traditions. Since their Paris Fashion Week debut in 2021, Ujoh continues to present their latest creations in Paris, exhibiting a global vision that transcends borders.
With a nuanced color palette featuring moss gray, ebony, steel gray, greige, topaz, dusty purple, and mulberry, Ujoh’s Fall-Winter 2024 Collection show clearly the brand’s commitment to innovation, sophistication, and the classic craftmanship of tailoring. Each garment weaves together the past and present, creating a timeless line.
