UJOH FW25: A REBELLIOUS NOSTALGIA

By Iris JEANSON

Aco and Mitsuru Nishizaki reimagine the Japanese school uniform for Ujoh’s Fall-Winter 2025 collection. An ode to the ‘90s blended with modern rebellion. Through precise tailoring and layering, they break rigid dress codes to celebrate personal expression. Oversized cardigans drape over asymmetric skirts, while fluid leg warmers nod to the iconic loose socks of the era. Embroidered tulips reference a the Japanese tradition where each schoolchild is entrusted with a bulb to nurture through the seasons, symbolizing growth and transformation. A newly introduced silver Ujoh badge reinterprets the school crest. The models, adorned with freckles, embodied a natural and youthful authenticity.

Nishizaki plays with materials that contrast structure and softness. Brushed flannel twill reflects the worn-in feel of old uniforms, while textured jacquard evokes fur-like relief through hand-cut threads. Wool gabardine, waxed for a supple finish, enhances silhouettes, and recycled polyamide quilting modernizes winter school jackets with plush volume. Classic hues of dark chocolate, taupe, bottle green, and navy blue meet vibrant accents of electric lime, sky blue, and delicate beige, contrasting the looks.

Ujoh’s Fall-Winter 2025 collection transforms the uniform into a symbol of self-expression. Through oversized styling and rich textures, Aco and Mitsuru Nishizaki celebrate the quiet rebellion of youth, showing that even within constraints, individuality thrives. In the finale, the models performed a playful scene where they talked, laughed, and sat on school chairs, bringing the collection’s spirit of camaraderie to life.
