VETEMENTS SS17: AN IMPACTFUL COLLABORATIVE VISION
The Vetements designers collectif has made an habit of making history. A few weeks ago, the news of the label being appointed guest member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne got the fashion industry excited for what was to come. And what came yesterday did not disappoint. Indeed, Demna Gvasalia – now one of the most talked-about designers today, both for his groundbreaking label and for his first collections as creative director of Balenciaga – chose the emblematic Galeries Lafayette to show his spring-summer 2017 collection. With Gvasalia, you always expect the unexpected. Choosing to present this collection in July instead of September is already a statement, but the venue selected is not random either: in a current context where the fashion business is being reshaped with new sale strategies, Gvasalia sent a clear message showing his collection in Paris’ largest department store. This season was also placed under the symbol of collaboration, and at level hardly ever seen before, as the entire collection was put together as a collaborative effort. Specialized brands like Levi’s (denimwear), Juicy Couture (velour sweats), Manolo Blahnik (exquisite high heels), or Canada Gooose (outerwear), and more, all teamed up with Gvasalia and his team to create a coherent collection at the end.
