VIVIENNE WESTWOOD FOR EASTPAK

By Roisin Breen

Vivienne Westwood is the latest house to lend its aesthetic force to the contemporary yet utilitarian brand we know as Eastpak. A silhouette and a logo recognised the world over and favoured by everyone from backpacking tourists, to over-charged mums, to sleek city office workers, for their reliable, functional yet stylish designs.

The seven unique designs are an amalgamation of the sleek functionality ethos of Eastpak and the punk DNA of the legendary British design house.

Embracing the custom Planets print graphic first debuted during the Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood Spring-Summer 2019 runway collection, the collection is a nod to our planet, our universe and the preservation of the forces of nature.

Taking inspiration from the “Saturn Return”, which only occurs two or three times in the average person’s lifetime (due to the length of time it takes Saturn to circle the Sun), the print evokes the sense of change and reflection commonly associated with this mystical planet. Reflecting the sense of change and reflection both Eastpak and Vivienne Westwood implore upon its consumers to evoke in regards to our own planet and the damage being caused by over-consumption. Designed to last, the bags are made in innovative and sustainable materials.

The collection will also support the Cool Earth Initiative www.coolearth.org a charity fighting to: protect endangered rainforests, combat global warming, aid ecosystems and support employment for local people.
