WEEKEND MAX MARA UNVEILS NEW EDITION OF PASTICCINO BAG: EXPLORING TREASURES OF JAPAN

By Ariane MINARD

Weekend Max Mara announced the latest launch of its iconic Pasticcino bag. For its third and final edition of iworld Tour, after Venice and Paris, the Pasticcino stopped in Kyoto. The last chapter of this interseasonal project celebrates Japan’s rich tradition of textile art and kimonos, which goes back centuries.

The Pasticcino Bag Treasures of Japan collection features special edition bags made from sumptuous silk jacquards from the historical archives of Kawashima Selkon Textiles, a Koto-based fabric manufacturer founded in 1843. Thanks to its many certified craftsmen and the combination of traditional techniques and cutting-edge technology, the brand is renowned for its exquisite silks used to create my finest obis, ceremonial garments and luxurious interior fabrics.

The bags are available in six variants and two sizes, each featuring unique designs in delicate pastel tones, shades of matte gold, rust and caramel, each telling a story. One of them is a revisitation of an imperial-inspired motif from 1905. They evoke also the softest interiors of Kimonos.

The ball clasps are handmade by the craftsmen of Bottega Nakamori-Kumihimo, exclusive partner of the “ando corporation”. There, they’ve been making obijime and haori cords for over four generations, since the company was founded in 1927.

Delicate yet strong, classic yet contemporary – the two souls of Japan and Weekend Max Mara intertwine in every piece.

The Pasticcino Treasures of Japan bag will be available from June 2024.
